Task 2C

Comparison

The advantages of digital publishing compared to traditional printing are, Digital publishing can give a variety of content across multiple devices such as smartphones and tablets.

A few examples of traditional printing are Screen printing, Lithography, Gravure and Flexography compared to digital publishing these methods are a lot more time consuming as it has to be done by hand whereas digital publishing can be done on a computer. Another advantage is that more people are going online and using smartphones/tablets which means they spend more time looking at the news and reading books online than going and buying a newspaper, magazine and books etc. A few examples of digital publishing are e-magazines, e-newspapers, adverts, DVD covers, Training materials, promotional material, flyers, e-books and leaflets.

For example if you were to use an e-book, the advantages of this would be that it can be purchased instantly instead of going to a book store and buying a book, you can take it on the go with you and it’s easy to put away as you can just put your smartphone or tablet in your bag/pocket, can offer free samples of books, magazines to lure more customers into using e-books and lower production costs. The disadvantages of an e-book are, that it can be easily pirated, cannot be signed/autographed which means it loses sentimental value, harder to loan friends as you won't want to give them your smartphone/tablet and a change of reading experience as many authors such as J.K Rowling don't want their books being turned into an e-book as it changes the experience of reading the book.

Overall I think that digital publishing is better than traditional publishing as it’s a lot more modern and many more people use digital publishing.

Task 2B

Digitally published products
Where are they published today?
E-magazine/ E-newspaper/ E-book
It is becoming common to distribute books, magazines, and newspapers to consumers through tablet reading devices e.g. kindle
Adverts
Adverts can be either visual or audio to market products to their audience. They can be published on social media, websites, and commercial breaks on the television.
DVD or CD
Today, not many people go out of their way to buy CD’s or DVD’s. Therefore, they are able to access CD Albums through the internet on music applications e.g. YouTube, Spotify, and soundcloud. They can also watch films which are usually exhibited on DVD’s on online film websites/applications e.g. Netflix and 123movies.
Flyers
Flyers can be published as well as printed as hardcopies onto the internet. They are published on websites as it is easier to view for the audience and to market their products.
Leaflets
Just like flyers, Leaflets can also be published onto websites so their products can be marketed to their audience easily.

Task 1b: Comparison

Purpose of digitally published products

The use of digital technology to replace written material so that it can be spread and accessed through computerized electronic devices. The original term "electronic publishing," is slowly being replaced by the terms electronic publishing and digital publishing. All three to describe the same technology, however, the term "digital publishing" is most frequently used by companies offering electronic services.

The purpose of digitally publishing within advert photography there is usually a focus point so that the audience focuses on that specific object. For example, in this advert image chosen the Starbucks cup is the depth-of-field so that it is the main focus as the advert oi marketing the object therefore it’ll gain more customers. However, Flyers can also be seen as advertising events/parties etc. Flyers need to be interesting and full with colours depending on the topic to promote their topic. For the flyer I have chosen the producer has used flags which relate to what they are trying to promote to their audience. They have also made it clear what this flyer is meant to present by the text on the flyer. They have also made additional contacts so the audience is always connected by adding where there can listen to the mix being promoted and the DJs contact information.

Task 1a: Digitally published products

Digitally published products
Image
How is it used?
E-magazine
E-magazines are used so that that are easily accessed to the public instead of them using the old traditional magazines which may have to be brought in a local shop. Some e-magazines have to be purchased for a certain price whereas others are free and are often interactive once you go onto a website which links to it. They're used to inform the public on popular activities going on around them.
E-newspaper
As people have to go to work/school/college/university in the mornings they often do not have time to go to shops nearest to them to buy a newspaper therefore, e-newspapers are ideal as they inform the public about what is going on locally, in their city and internationally. The e-newspaper is used to educate and inform the public. It educates them by letting them know what is going on around them. Not just locally but also internationally. It also informs them on jobs they may be looking for or houses they may be interested in.
E-book
E-books are electronic books that people are able to read on tablets (for example a kindle) whilst they take their long journeys. These are more convenient as physical books can be torn or become damp due to liquids. There are negatives about having to use a tablet on a daily bases for example, the screen can be smashed or water damaged. E-books is a tool that it portable and easily accessible to the audience allowing to read wherever they are.
Adverts
Within advert photography there is usually a focus point so that the audience focuses on that specific object. For example, in this advert image chosen the starbucks cup is the depth-of-field so that it is the main focus as the advert is marketing the object therefore it’ll gain more customers. Adverts are use to inform the audience on important topics or to let them know when their new TV shows are being aired.
DVD or CD covers
DVD covers are used to sale the DVD as it is what draws attention to the audience. If the cover seems to be interested and well edited by a professional it will gain more sales but if it seems as if a beginner made the DVD cover on Photoshop and the photography isn’t clear enough people tend to not want to buy it therefore there won’t be as many views as they may have wanted. Although many people say do not judge by the cover,. These covers help the audience understand what will be within the movie that is being presented within.
Flyers
Flyers need to be interesting and full with colours depending on the topic to promote their topic. For the flyer I have chosen the producer has used flags which relate to what they are trying to promote to their audience. They have also made it clear what this flyer is meant to present by the text on the flyer. They have also made additional contacts so the audience is always connected by adding where there can listen to the mix being promoted and the DJs contact information. Flyers address the public on a specific topic. For example, When their is a new hair salon being opened, the manager will often get her/his workers to go out and give flyers out so they can gain more clients.
Leaflets
These are usually made to inform people about brief information on paper so people can have it and read it when they want to. Just like flyers, leaflets may be used in the same manner.
Training materials/ instruction manuals
The purpose of these are to tell you how to do/use/make something the right way so there aren’t any issues when using the item. These usually come with the item and has each step numbered. These instructions are to make a cup of tea. They have time durations so that people know how long to keep doing a certain part of the process. Instruction manuals help someone to do it themselves (otherwise known as DIY.) It is often filled with information and pictures to help someone put something together that wouldn't be so easy.
Text and copy for moving image and audio products

Interactive media
Interactive media normally refers to products and services on computer-based systems which respond to the user’s actions by presenting content such as text, animation, video audio, video games and moving image.
Promotional material
These are items that you can use to promote your brand or company and sell them so other people promote them too whilst using/wearing the item.
