Task 3B

Evaluation

Firstly I began with my background and changed it many times. At first it was Green, yellow, red which are the popular reggae colours which people often familiarise themselves to when they begin to listen, talk or think about the term 'reggae'. However, shortly after doing my background and adding other layers above it I realised that these colours were common colours that the other people in my class were doing therefore I had to change the colour of my background so I can become unique compared to a majority of the group. I chose black as my background colour because it is a easy shade which contrast against the colour white as I also decided to change my text from black to white so it will then be easily seen to the audience.

I decided to make my text font different according to the rhythm or mood I believed each reggae music genre and it will be more exciting to the audience and eye-catching. Each text was large so that the audience would have no problems with reading the text within the poster. I also added a quote from Bob Marley which I believed was inspiring and would make the audience think therefore not only am I presenting a poster for reggae but I may be teaching those who view and analyse it.

Although I didn't want to use the colours green, yellow and red, I still wanted to have some aspects of reggae apart from the text so that it would be suitable for reggae and once the audience sees it they'll be able to recognise what the poster is portraying by the colour scheme organised on the poster.

Therefore, I added a lion onto it with the reggae colour scheme and made the opacity lighter so that it would give a fade in effect. I also added text in the bottom left corner 'one love' and changes the colour to red, yellow and green so that it would present the theme of reggae and as it is a song by Bob Marley a well-known reggae artist. I chose a lion out of all images because lions are seen to be fierce and strong and Rastafarians like to be related to it so, it suited the theme perfectly. I also added some sunglasses over the lions eyes so there would be some aspects of comedy. Rastafari is a young, Africa-centred religion which developed in Jamaica in the 1930s, following the coronation of Haile Selassie I as King of Ethiopia in 1930  I also added a image of a peace sign in the left top corner as reggae because although reggae music can be portrayed in a sexual aspect or politics. Reggae artist also present peace as well as love.

I also added paint splashes behind the lion (which was original colourful until I changed it to white) so that it would give the lion a glowing look and make the lion stand out as it was the main image out of the whole poster. I was able to finally present my final edit for my reggae poster and received some helpful feedback for my reggae poster.

Creating a poster helped me communicate with reggae as I was able to add the colours which are interpreted as reggae colours in a significant way. My intentions for the poster was to educate and inform my audience on the music reggae is represented by and to also add well-known artist that the audience may or may not know.
