Evaluation

Evaluation

Within our music video our intention was to make a performance with different scenes and editing skills which will make the music video interesting. We did this by using different angles within our video and transitions such as peel and zoom in/out. We also had to make sure the lip sync fitted well making the video better. To make this easier for us we used a music artist and allowed him to use his own music 'Exchange Part 2' therefore he already knew the lyrics and didn't have to learn them which saved time for us. At first we wanted to use his song 'Track 9' but then came to a realisation that the tempo was too slow and would be boring for viewers. In addition to that, it was too explicit with many phrases which we didn't the meaning of so we didn't use it as we weren't aware of whether it would offend the audience or not. The purpose of the music video was to influence and entertain the target audience. The target audience was anyone over the age of 14, who enjoys listening to music which have a meaning behind it and is based upon a true story. As well as listening to Dsuaves they also may listen to music artist like Cadet and Krept & Konan as they both have a similar sense of meaning within their storylines in their music and talk about how their life was when they were younger. The video came across as very casual as it could relate to the audience and it wasn't very complicated like other music videos.

In the beginning of our music video assignment we decided to use one location as we got an idea from a artist called Cadets music performance video on YouTube. But soon after we decided to use many locations with a change of people within scenes and a change of clothing to make the music video look eye appealing to our viewers and not very boring. The choices we made during production are to change various locations. As at the start we thought we could stick to one location. We decided to still use the photography studio but use various other locations to make the music video look better with more cuts. We also decided that the artist had a minimum change of three outfit changes so the music video looks more put together. We also made sure we had all equipment such as the canon camera, tripod etc. This made us prepare for the music video shoot. We also made sure we had various different types of shots and we captured various videos to edit so it would cut smoothly throughout the video.

What worked well was the editing as our first draft we got feedback on how we should include more scenes and more cuts. We listened to the feedback and done our second edit with more cuts and different types of shots in different locations. This helped as the music video looked better also with the added transitions to make the music video look extra smooth. The style of the music video went well as we got an authentic look just like how the artist is presented.

The style of the music video gives a cool and calming vibe towards the target audience. The editing techniques were mastered on our second edit as we knew what we had to improve on. We made sure to look at other music videos to get ideas and to make our final edit the best it could be. Our areas for improvement could be the steadiness of the camera; we should have used our tripod in some shots. We also could have made sure whoever was included in the music video (friends) to concentrate because at times even the artist was not concentrated. We could have also included maybe two more simple locations to make the music video even better. Areas of development could be the editing and planning as we started of slow because we didn’t know what type of music video we wanted to do. Next time we could plan more in depth and also produce more detailed storyboards.

  1. This is a detailed evaluation with lots of examples used of editing. You are clear on audience feedback and on areas for development. Vanessa
